Lebanon: Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, called on sponsors of the ceasefire agreement with Israel to take responsibility for deterring aggression and pressuring Israel to withdraw from occupied territories.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement issued today, Mikati commended the resilience of people of southern Lebanon, who remain steadfast on their land and committed to their identity despite Israeli threats, especially those who returned today and stood firm in the face of occupation fire.
The statement urged the countries involved in brokering the ceasefire to uphold their commitments to prevent further aggression and ensure Israel’s withdrawal from occupied areas. This message was directly conveyed to the concerned parties, warning that any failure to adhere to the terms of the ceasefire or implement Resolution 1701 will have serious consequences, the statement emphasized.
Earlier, Israeli forces opened fire on civilians in southern Lebanese villages and towns, causing casualties and injuries.
Notably, today marks the end of the 60-day deadline for Israel to withdraw its forces from border villages and towns in southern Lebanon, as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement reached on November 27.
