Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, received, yesterday evening, Tuesday, the Minister of State in the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar, in the Ministry’s building in Baghdad.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement: During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, and ways to develop them in a way that serves the aspirations of the two peoples, and praised the great development witnessed by relations in all fields.
During his chairmanship of the work of the joint Iraqi-Emirati committee at its tenth session in Baghdad, the Minister stressed the need to expedite the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding to exempt holders of diplomatic and service passports from entry visas to both countries, stressing the importance of forming a joint parliamentary friendship committee between the Iraqi and Emirati Parliament, calling for Establishing the Joint Iraqi-Emirati Coordination Council by forming a group of specialized technical committees to overcome the consequences that prevent raising the level of cooperation between the two countries.
He added that the continuation of the work of the Joint Committee for the tenth time is clear evidence of our desire to open opportunities for dialogue, discussion and coordination between governmental and private institutions and sectors, and will enhance opportunities by finding a basis for cooperation and moving towards achieving the desired goals, and confronting the challenges of climate change and food security requirements, which are considered among the topics that are coming at the top of the priorities of our two countries, and the peoples of the entire world.
The Minister pointed out the importance of economic openness and developing relations between the two countries in the field of trade, investment and education in order to create a suitable investment environment for all to achieve economic development, through signing a comprehensive economic agreement.
The two sides also discussed mutual support in international organizations and coordination in international forums for the two countries’ candidates for international positions.
For his part, the UAE Minister of State stressed the importance of fraternal relations between the two countries, and the keenness of the leadership in the UAE to activate bilateral cooperation mechanisms, pointing to the importance of Iraq and its role in the region, stressing his country’s keenness to develop common interests in various fields that return and enhance mutual benefits between the two peoples and the two countries. The two brothers, referring to the directives of the UAE leadership to fully open up with Iraq.
