Doha: HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, who also serves as Chairman of the committee for follow-up on the implementation of food security policies, has confirmed that Qatar's progress in food production highlights the effectiveness of national policies aimed at achieving self-sufficiency and ensuring market stability.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Minister stated that Qatar has reached 99% self-sufficiency in dairy production and its derivatives. He emphasized that this progress showcases the crucial role played by national companies in bolstering local production and sustaining food supplies, which in turn contributes to market stability and guarantees the continuous availability of food products.
This announcement was made during the Minister's inspection visit to Baladna Food Industries. The visit, attended by the Chairman of the company, Moutaz Al Khayyat, was aimed at reviewing the food security system and reinforcing local production. During the visit, the Minister evaluated operations at the farm and production lines at Baladna's factories, which cater to approximately 99% of the local market's demand for fresh dairy products. He also assessed the stock of agricultural and industrial production inputs, found to be sufficient to support the company's needs for over ten months, thereby further stabilizing food supplies in the local market.
The Minister was briefed by the company management on their capacity to provide dairy products and their plans to enhance the production system and operational efficiency to align with local market needs. Al Khayyat noted that the Minister's visit underscores the significant attention given by the state to the food production sector. He reiterated the company's dedication to advancing its production capabilities and strengthening its role in food security to meet local market demands. Al Khayyat also highlighted the support from the state, which has enabled the company to develop a comprehensive production system that meets international standards, thus improving its ability to supply dairy products efficiently and sustainably.
This visit is part of a series of inspections conducted by the Minister of Municipality to various companies and facilities engaged in agriculture, livestock, and food production. The objective is to assess the readiness of the local production system, evaluate the progress of national projects, and ensure the stability of food supplies and product availability in the markets, thereby reinforcing the country's food security system in the current context.
