Minister of Water Resources: Baghdad International Water Conference is a qualitative event and we seek common understandings for fair shares

The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, stressed the importance of the activities of the Fourth Baghdad International Conference, which began today, Wednesday, in the capital, Baghdad, with a high-level Arab and international presence and under the slogan 'For a better water future... together we can.' The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, said in a joint press conference with his Arab minister counterparts today, Sunday in Baghdad, that 'the Baghdad International Water Conference is a qualitative event to shed light on the financial situation in Iraq, and there will be ongoing seminars and workshops aimed at reaching important results for water resources management in Iraq. He explained, 'Iraq has begun to complain about the lack of water resources and has entered the water poverty line now, after previously not suffering from that. This calls us to pay serious attention to the water issue and to shed light directly on this problem, and for there to be support for Iraq from all parties, Arab co untries and neighboring countries regarding justice in the distribution of water shares and the common interest of the countries from which river water originates.' Regarding Turkey's participation in the work of the Fourth Baghdad International Water Conference, the Minister of Water Resources confirmed that 'there is cooperation with the Turkish side, which is participating within the work of the conference, as this was preceded by the important visit of President Erdogan and the Turkish government delegation concerned with the water file to Baghdad recently, and there were clear and frank negotiations with them.' noting that ' Baghdad International Water Conference is a scientific and research conference in which there is no political aspect.' He continued to say, 'The framework agreement that Iraq signed with Turkey in the presence of President Erdogan included important provisions and decisions that we seek to implement successively, and other technical aspects that are in the process of being addresse d.'
