Doha: The Department of Private Schools and Kindergartens Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) organized a forum focused on Student Counseling under the theme ‘Towards a Safe and Cohesive Educational Community’. The event witnessed participation from officials, academics, school and kindergarten principals, educational centers, parents, and students.
According to Qatar News Agency, the forum aimed to introduce the first edition of the Student Counseling Guide for Private Schools and Kindergartens 2025. This initiative seeks to enable private schools and students to access counseling services provided by specialists in the State of Qatar, aiming to foster a safe learning environment and facilitate the exchange of experiences. The event also introduced stakeholders to social institutions and student care services.
Assistant Undersecretary for Special Education Affairs, Omar Abdulaziz Al Naama, highlighted the shared responsibility of enhancing student counseling to make it more effective and sustainable. He emphasized achieving psychological and social adaptation for students to ensure academic stability within a supportive environment that meets diverse needs. Al Naama reiterated the ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance the role of social and psychological specialists by providing essential tools and resources.
Dr. Rania Mohammed, Director of the Department of Private Schools and Kindergartens Affairs, confirmed that the guide serves as a comprehensive roadmap. It aims to empower specialists responsible for the care and protection of students by providing psychological and educational support through the latest approved methods and practices. She emphasized that student counseling is foundational in building students’ personalities and enhancing their psychological, social, and educational health.
Munira Al Hajri, Senior Student Counseling Expert at MOEHE, discussed the advisory team’s role in building partnerships with governmental and private institutions to create a safe and balanced environment for students in Qatar. The forum also featured dialogue sessions underscoring the importance of social workers in schools and raising family awareness to build a robust database that serves all students.
HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, inaugurated an exhibition showcasing centers specialized in supporting and protecting students. These centers provided detailed insights into their work and guidance for private schools and kindergartens.
Notably, the first Student Counseling Guide for Private Schools and Kindergartens represents a pioneering initiative in private education. It addresses various aspects of student guidance, including ethical charters and procedures, qualifications and skills of guidance officers, and collaboration with community institutions. The guide was reviewed by eight institutions concerned with student care and protection, including the Ministry of Interior’s Human Rights Department, the Community Police, and other key health and consulting centers.
