Doha: A newly released book entitled “The Treasury of Literature in the Doha of the Arabs,” authored by writer and media figure Mohamed Shabrawy, has been published by Now Publishers and Distributors.
According to Qatar News Agency, the medium-sized volume explores themes that bridge classical heritage with modern sensibilities, addressing a range of contemporary topics anchored in traditional foundations. It aims to preserve Arab distinctiveness and affirm the unique cultural identity of Arab societies in the age of globalization.
The 330-page book, structured in 12 chapters, draws from the tradition of majlis etiquette and literary soirees, often referred to as cultural salons. It is structured around the dynamic interplay between heritage and modernity, and the duality of identity and globalization.
The narrative revolves around the gathering of three friends in the Qatari capital, Doha, where they engage in weekly conversations touching on literature, thought, politics, culture, society, and the arts. Reflecting on this encounter, the author notes that three capitals came together in the Doha of virtue, the sanctuary of those seeking solace.
They brought along companions from diverse walks of life, kindred spirits who gathered for a weekly majlis by the shores of Al Dhakhira, releasing their thoughts freely and authentically. Their conversations spanned literature, philosophy, politics, social issues, the arts, and so forth.
