The independent MP from Maysan Governorate, Raed Hamdan Al-Maliki called on the Iraqi government to find a legal framework to guarantee Iraq's share of water with Turkey and Iran.
The MP stressed in a press statement: "The need to conclude an agreement with Turkey regarding Iraq's share of water based on the provisions of Article 109 of the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923."
The MP criticized the government's neglect of the problem and its procedures, calling on it to change the agricultural and industrial water consumption pattern and use emergency allocations to solve part of the crisis.
He also criticized the use of Tigris River water to inject oil wells at a time when citizens are deprived of it for agricultural projects and drinking./ End
