OIC Hosts 47th Session of Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural and Social Affairs

Jeddah: The 47th session of the Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural and Social Affairs kicked off Tuesday at the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah. In the opening of the three-day session, Secretary General of the OIC Hissein Ibrahim Taha emphasized that the organization attaches great importance to implementing its resolutions in the fields of economy, science and technology, culture, social and family affairs, youth and sports.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Secretary General highlighted the importance of promoting science and technology, higher education, health, the environment, and water resources across all member states. He noted that the OIC General Secretariat is working to develop the organization’s vision for artificial intelligence, which will provide a strategic framework for member states in formulating national artificial intelligence policies.

The OIC Secretary-General stated that the organization is actively pursuing initiatives aimed at preventing and combating diseases, with a particular focus on cancer and polio. He added that the General Secretariat is working closely with member states and their institutions to organize joint cultural events and follow up on the implementation of the decision to establish an OIC platform for the protection and preservation of cultural heritage in the Islamic world, in coordination with relevant institutions.
