Geneva: The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting children impacted by armed conflicts, emphasizing its efforts to provide various forms of assistance. This includes hosting children separated from their families due to war and aiding in their reunification with families.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar's statement was delivered by Abdullah Ahmed Al Hardan, Third Secretary in the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the annual debate on the Rights of the Child at the 61st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Al Hardan highlighted Qatar's ongoing efforts through international programs and partnerships to ensure access to education for millions of children deprived of this right because of conflicts.
Al Hardan emphasized Qatar's commitment to enhancing and protecting children's rights in both peace and conflict situations. He noted the importance of international partnerships in supporting efforts to safeguard conflict-affected children and mentioned that Doha hosts the Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict.
Additionally, Al Hardan referenced a resolution presented by Qatar and Costa Rica, adopted by the Human Rights Council, focusing on promoting and protecting the human rights of women and children in conflict and post-conflict settings. This resolution contains proposals to enhance international legal obligations to protect the human rights of children in conflict situations, ensuring they receive essential needs such as education and health, preventing their involvement in conflicts, and holding violators accountable.
