Qatar Engages in Key Dialogue at Arab Region Food Systems Transformation Meeting

Cairo: The State of Qatar actively participated in the 4th Arab Region Food Systems Transformation Meeting, which commenced on Wednesday at the Arab League's General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo. This event was organized in collaboration with the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, FAO, and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar was represented by a delegation from its Permanent Mission to the Arab League, led by Dr. Issa Salem Al Kuwari. The meeting spans two days and aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise, bolster cooperation frameworks, and enhance partnerships with regional and international organizations. The discussions also focus on stimulating investments and aligning national priorities with available funding opportunities. Regional offices from various UN agencies, including the United Nations Development Program, the World Health Organization, the World Food Program, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, are participating alongside other partners.

The meeting addresses the ongoing food security challenges in the Arab region and aligns with international efforts initiated since the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit. These efforts are directed at accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through an integrated approach to food systems.

In this regard, HE Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Arab League's Economic Affairs Sector, Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al Malki, highlighted that this marks the first occasion the Arab League has hosted and organized such a meeting. The regional conditions and their impact on global supply chains were discussed, noting the significant role of the Arab Gulf States as major producers of fertilizers, which influences global food security.

His Excellency expressed that the meeting is anticipated to produce a regional document for the transformation of food systems in Arab countries, aligning with international trends. Additionally, it aims to launch joint partnerships and initiatives in the areas of finance, innovation, and related policies.
