Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani hosted a luncheon at Lusail Palace on Sunday to honor Al Gharafa Sports Club, the 2026 Amir Cup champions, and runners-up Al Sadd SC. The event celebrated the achievements of the winning players, coaching, and management staff, alongside sports and media personalities and representatives of the tournament's sponsors.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani was active on the diplomatic front, holding discussions with key international figures. He spoke with HH Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud and met with HE Secretary of State of the United States Marco Rubio, as well as HE Special Envoy of the US President to the Middle East Steve Witkoff. Additionally, the Prime Minister engaged in a phone conversation with HE Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Abbas Araghchi.
The Ministry of Defense of Qatar reported that a commercial cargo vessel in the country's territorial waters northeast of Mesaieed Port, originating from Abu Dhabi, was targeted by a drone on Sunday morning. The attack led to a limited fire onboard, though no injuries were reported. The State of Qatar expressed strong condemnation of this act and voiced its denunciation of similar attacks, including one on a police checkpoint in Pakistan and another targeting the State of Kuwait.
Furthermore, Qatar participated in several international and regional meetings, including an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council concerning Sudan and a preparatory meeting for the COP31 conference in Turkiye. In domestic affairs, HE Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari met with William Ford, Chairman and CEO of General Atlantic, while HE Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri held discussions with HE Ambassador of Germany to Qatar, Oliver Owcza.
