Already placed at listed level, the Qatar Racing Limited-owned RULING (Camelot x Rosenreihe) secured a well-deserved first success when romping away with the William Hill Ireland Double Your Odds Maiden at The Curragh on Sunday, September 26th.
Trained by Joseph O’Brien, the three-year-old was having his first start since being gelded and was confidently ridden to success by jockey Shane Crosse. Sent off favourite, RULING was placed on three of his four previous starts, including when third in the Listed Nijinsky Stakes and had not been seen since finishing ninth in the Group Two Queens Vase at Royal Ascot in June.
Smartly out of the stalls, RULING was placed in behind the early leaders through the opening stages of the 2,000m contest. KILMALLOCK LADY (Starspangledbanner) set a brisk pace through the first half of the race and the thirteen-runner field was well spaced out. RULING always travelled strongly on the heels of the leader and was asked to take closer order on the turn for home. Inside the final 500m, KILMALLOCK LADY began to fade and eased her way to the lead. Despite drifting towards the inside rail, RULING was much superior than his rivals and galloped clear to a nine-length success at the line. Outsider COOLNAUGH HAZE (Lawman) ran a big race to finish second while RICK DALTON (Estidhkaar) finished a never nearer third.
Bred by Gestut Wittekindshot, RULING is by Coolmore Stud stallion CAMELOT (Montjeu). His dam, ROSENREIHE (Catcher In The Rye) won the Group One Preis Der Diana (German Oaks) at Dussledorf. She has produced multiple black-type performers including SAVVY SIX (Pour Moi) who was placed third in the Group One Deutches Derby at Hamburg, Italian Listed winner ROSE RIZED (Authorized) and RULING. She has also produced winners HINT OF THE STARS (Sea The Stars) and FAST DELIVERY (Authorized).
