Geneva: The State of Qatar has reiterated its commitment to supporting the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in fulfilling its mandate. This support includes hosting the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, providing full backing for its initiatives, and making regular contributions to the OHCHR budget.
According to Qatar News Agency, this commitment was expressed in a statement by Nour Hamad Al Kaabi, Third Political Researcher at the Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a general debate on technical assistance and capacity-building at the 61st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Al Kaabi emphasized the importance of technical assistance and capacity-building in helping states meet their human rights obligations.
She highlighted that effective assistance should be tailored to the needs and priorities of the concerned states, and must be provided with their consent. This should be done within a framework of constructive dialogue and cooperation, aiming to achieve tangible results on the ground. Al Kaabi also stressed that all human rights, including the right to development, are interconnected and should be given equal attention and priority.
