Doha: The Qatar Scientific Club of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, has announced that 256 research projects will compete in the second phase of the “Baheth 8” competition. This year, the competition has seen a participation of 512 students, more than double the number from last year, covering various educational stages.

According to Qatar News Agency, the participating research projects span fields including artificial intelligence, precise software and sensors, environment and sustainability, and information and communication technology. The competition’s judging committee is set to conclude the evaluation of this phase on Thursday and select the qualifying projects for the next stage.

The program’s director at the Qatar Scientific Club, Fatima Al Muhannadi, explained that “Baheth” is a research competition launched by the Qatar Scientific Club in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education since its first edition in 2017. Al Muhannadi mentioned that the Qatar Scientific Club is proud of the response from various schools across the country, indicating a distinguished research level among its students thanks to the cooperation of several entities, including the Research, Development, and Innovation Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Qatar Scientific Club.

She noted that the competition judging involves student interviews and presentations to panels of engineers and experts, and the criteria include the clarity and focus of the research objective, innovation or improvement of previous ideas, presentation skills, student interaction, discussion capabilities, scientific consultations, collaborations, and references used in the project. She stressed that after this phase, the final stage will take place in April, where selected projects from each educational level will compete for the top prizes, adding that each participating student and supervisor will receive a medal indicating the qualification level, participating schools will receive certificates of appreciation, and the top three research projects will be awarded financial prizes and the “Baheth” competition shield in its eighth edition.
