The State of Qatar took part in the 56th meeting of the Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) that was concluded in Salalah under the presidency of the Sultanate Oman, and attended by heads and representatives of national standardization bodies of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Qatar's delegation in the two-day meeting was headed by HE Chairperson of the Qatar General Authority for Standardization and Metrology Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Mohammed Al Musallam.
The meeting focused on a number of important topics on its agenda, most notably the follow-up to the implementation of the decisions of the 55th Technical Council meeting. It reviewed several memos in the field of standards and metrology, including the memo of the presidency of the GSO on the adoption of draft standards and GCC technical regulations and a memo on the outcomes of GCC technical committees for specifications. The meeting examined the mechanism for reviewing and auditing lists of draft standards and GCC technical regulations and discussed developments in the international system for the classification of chemicals.
The heads and representatives of the national standardization bodies of GCC member states also considered the memo of the presidency of GSO regarding the decisions of the ministerial committee for standardization affairs and discussed the draft agenda of the sixth meeting of the ministerial committee for standardization affairs, in addition to discussing the memo of the presidency of the GSO regarding the appointment of the secretary general of the Gulf Metrology Association and considering a proposal to create the GCC quality award.
