Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha: In their Sunday editorials, Qatari newspapers strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli occupation in Gaza, highlighting the intensification of massacres and deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians in schools and mosques, describing them as acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing aimed at inflicting maximum damage on the Palestinian people. In this context, the newspapers emphasized Qatars strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation's bombing of a school housing displaced people east in eastern Gaza City, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens. Qatar described the attack as a horrific massacre, a brutal crime against unarmed civilians, and a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 2601. In another matter, the newspapers praised Qatari athlete Mutaz Barshim for winning the bronze medal in the high jump at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, affirming that the Qatari star will be remembered as one of the greatest Olympians o f all time, especially in mens high jump. Al-Arab newspaper stated that the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza has escalated to unprecedented levels of brutality, turning the Strip into a vast cemetery after being the worlds largest open-air prison for over 15 years. The shelters, where the "survivors" of the Israeli war machine seek refuge have become zones of extermination. The newspaper highlighted Qatars call for an urgent international investigation surrounding the continuous targeting of schools and shelters by Israeli occupation forces. This comes after the horrific massacre committed by the Israeli army on Saturday at the Al-Tabin school in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of central Gaza, claiming the lives of 100 martyrs and injuring dozens. The Israeli occupation forces admitted to targeting the school, on the pretense that Palestinian resistance fighters and leaders were inside. Al-Arab concluded by stating that the almost daily massacres committed against the unarmed Palestinian people are a disgrace to humanity, reflecting the international communitys inability to stop the monstrous Israeli killing machine and the collective security system's failure to protect civilians against Israels arrogant defiance of international norms. In a similar vein, Al-Sharq newspaper said that the daily massacres perpetrated by the occupation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank are part of a systematic genocide campaign targeting the Palestinian people, led by the extremist Israeli government under Benjamin Netanyahu. The paper noted that these crimes are part of broader plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza, with the latest atrocity being Saturdays massacre at a school sheltering displaced people in eastern Gaza, which claimed over 100 lives. The paper emphasized Qatars call in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday for an urgent international investigation by dispatching independent UN investigators to probe the ongoing targeting by Israeli occupation forces of schools and shelter s for displaced people, calling on the international community to provide full protection for the displaced people and prevent the occupation forces from carrying out its schemes aimed at forcibly displacing them from the Strip, in addition to compelling the occupation to abide by international laws. Al-Sharq concluded by asserting that the ongoing genocide in Gaza not only exposes the international communitys failure but also suggests complicity with the perpetrators, especially in light of the suspicious international silence and the lack of accountability, which can only be interpreted as a license for Israel to continue its horrific crimes against unarmed civilians.
