Doha: Qatari newspapers on Friday stressed the need to prioritize diplomacy to contain rising regional tensions and prevent further military escalation, while underscoring Qatar's support for negotiated solutions and its rejection of escalation. Editorials highlighted Qatar's role as a credible international mediator, pointing to its ability to bridge divides and support efforts aimed at maintaining regional and global stability. They also stressed the importance of involving regional actors, particularly Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, in any future negotiations to ensure sustainable security arrangements.
According to Qatar News Agency, the dailies focused on the economic dimension, noting the resilience of supply chains and the uninterrupted flow of trade despite heightened geopolitical uncertainty. They said GCC economies have maintained market stability, supported by long-term strategic planning and sustained investment in infrastructure. On the domestic front, newspapers highlighted the efficiency and preparedness of state institutions in responding to adverse weather conditions, citing strong coordination among authorities and a high level of public awareness.
Al-Raya emphasized that Qatar has established itself as a prominent mediator at both the regional and international levels, attributing this to a foreign policy based on neutrality and the ability to maintain open channels of communication between different parties. The paper noted that this role stems from a long-standing commitment to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, and from adopting mediation as a central tool for conflict prevention and the preservation of international peace and security. It added that Qatar has embraced the peaceful resolution of disputes as a strategic choice, relying on dialogue and preventive diplomacy across a number of complex international files, including Afghanistan, Lebanon, Sudan, Palestine, Chad, and Ukraine.
The editorial pointed to Doha agreements as a clear example of this approach, saying they have contributed to advancing peace efforts and reinforcing stability in several regions. It also highlighted Qatar's success in facilitating dialogue between conflicting parties, including its mediation between the United States and the Taliban, as well as its broader efforts to support engagement between Iran and the international community. Al-Raya reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination with regional and international partners to support diplomatic solutions, calling for an immediate halt to military escalation and a return to negotiations.
Al-Sharq warned of the growing risks posed by ongoing military escalation, saying the repercussions extend beyond the region to global security and stability. The paper said the current situation requires effective diplomatic initiatives capable of containing crises and preventing further deterioration, highlighting Qatar's role as a diplomatic actor committed to prioritizing peaceful solutions. It noted that Doha's position is based on rejecting escalation, calling for an immediate cessation of military operations, and advocating a return to dialogue as the only viable path to resolving disputes, reflecting adherence to international law and awareness of the risks posed by continued tensions.
