Thailand: Qatar's beach volleyball team, represented by Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan as Team Qatar 1, has successfully qualified for the Round of 16 in the Asian Open Tour - Samila Tour. The tournament, which began yesterday in Thailand, features 27 teams from 15 countries and will run through Wednesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, Team Qatar 1 secured their advancement by defeating Hong Kong 1 in straight sets (21-7, 21-8) during their match on Monday, placing them at the top of their group with a flawless 6-point record. Their previous victory over Oman, who finished second with 5 points, solidified their leading position. As a result, Hong Kong 1 was eliminated from the tournament after finishing third in the group.
The Qatari team will now face China in the next round tomorrow, aiming for a win to advance to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Team Qatar 2, consisting of Mohamed Ehab and Moussa Al Khair, experienced defeats against Hong Kong 2 in Group A (19-21, 7-15) and Thailand 1 (12-21, 16-21), leading to their exit from the tournament.
The participation of the Qatari teams is a part of a broader preparatory program. Following the tournament, they will engage in a training camp in Thailand from April 16 to 19 to prepare for the Asian Beach Games "Sanya," which will be held in China from April 22 to 30.
