QBF Convenes 2026 General Assembly, Highlights Key Matters

Doha: Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) convened its Ordinary General Assembly 2026, chaired by President of QBF Mohammed Saad Al Meghaiseeb. The meeting was attended by the federation's Board of Directors, club representatives, and an Olympic Committee representative, with the latter confirming that the General Assembly was duly convened with a quorum present. It laid out numerous critical matters on the agenda, foremost among them the federation's activities and programs throughout the new sports season. In his opening remarks, Al Meghaiseeb lauded the profound critical role the clubs undertake to support national teams.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Meghaiseeb praised the Qatari Olympic Committee and all clubs for their efforts in advancing basketball, alongside preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027. He noted that this upcoming event represents a strategic milestone in Qatari sports history and reflects the nation's advanced standing in hosting major international tournaments. He further commended the constructive collaboration of clubs, noting that the combined efforts have directly impacted achieving successes and milestones, reflecting the ethos of collective work within the Qatari basketball system.

The meeting reviewed the accomplishments of the 2025 season and notable progress in domestic tournaments and external participation of national teams. It ratified the 2025-26 sports season calendar, which includes domestic championships and regional and global participation, demonstrating QBF's commitment to providing technical training and competitive exposure to elevate performance levels.

In addition, the meeting approved the minutes of the previous meeting and discussed the Federation's plans for 2026, including development programs in various fields. These include advancing table officials ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, launching the federation's official website, and enhancing its digital communications across social media platforms. The media committee was thanked for promoting the broader presence of QBF and updating its digital tools to keep pace with advancements in sports and media.

Overall, the meeting emphasized that QBF is the first federation to launch its comprehensive strategy 2025-2030, aiming to achieve sports development, ensure sports excellence, and strengthen Olympic precepts through developing a professionalism system and sports legacy. This includes fostering sustainability and innovation by transforming basketball into an enduring sports model and promoting a sports culture to build a well-aware and healthy generation.

The General Assembly also focused on the importance of expanding women's basketball in Qatar and supporting the engagement of persons with disabilities in diverse sports events. This is part of a vision to expand sports participation, deepen inclusivity, and align with national trends in supporting societal sports.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Nasser Ajlan Al Kaabi was selected unopposed as a new member of the Board of Directors, succeeding Abdulrahman Hamad Al Mana.
