Rabat World Book Capital 2026 Events Kick Off

Rabat: The events of Rabat, World Book Capital 2026, kicked off Friday in Morocco. The program features 342 activities, encompassing open reading events, literary cafes, awareness campaigns on the importance of reading, exhibitions, mobile libraries, literary residencies, conferences, training courses, and workshops.

According to Qatar News Agency, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) considers the Moroccan capital a cultural hub for the exchange of knowledge and the arts. It also noted that the growing local book industry plays a significant role in advancing education, in line with the organization's goals, and that the city is home to 54 publishing houses and a growing number of libraries.

Rabat is the 26th city to be chosen as World Book Capital, the first being Madrid, Spain in 2001. Cities selected as World Book Capitals by UNESCO commit to promoting books and reading for all ages and groups, both within their national borders and internationally, and to organizing a program of activities throughout the year.
