Shafallah Center Launches “Fabric of Art” Initiative to Bridge Nations Through Culture

Doha: Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities has announced the launch of its inaugural “Fabric of Art” cultural initiative, aiming to bridge nations through the power of art. The initiative is organized in collaboration with the Bridging Nations Foundation and the French Academic Society of Arts, Sciences and Literature, and coordinated with the Embassy of the French Republic to the State of Qatar.

According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative includes technical workshops scheduled from February 16 to 20 at Qatar Museums. Maryam Saif Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Shafallah Center, explained that the exhibition will include three-day workshops focusing on art paintings. These workshops will feature 17 teams, each comprising a young disabled individual paired with a professional artist, competing for the top three positions.

The paintings will address the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the role of socialization in enhancing the lives of persons with disabilities and their integration into the community through activities like art. Al Suwaidi highlighted that the five-day event begins with an opening ceremony, followed by intensive collaboration among participants to create art that represents their collective vision.

Al Suwaidi stressed that the initiative is not merely an art event but an effort to strengthen cultural ties and promote cooperation through art, with a significant impact on empowering disabled individuals. The initiative showcases 17 disabled artists, with representation from Al Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, Best Buddies Qatar, and Al-Noor Center for the Blind. Qatar-based professional artists, including those from Matafi Artists’ Residence, will also participate, reflecting a wide range of abilities and talents.
