Doha: The Shura Council on Monday held its regular weekly session in Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's headquarters, chaired by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. The council renewed its condemnation and denunciation, in the strongest possible terms, of Iran's attack on the State of Qatar and its ongoing military offensives using ballistic missiles, drones, and combat jets, in violation of the country's national sovereignty, as well as compromising the safety and security of citizens, residents, and visitors, and breaching the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Council praised the stances of national parliaments, unions, and parliamentary organizations, underscoring its commitment to continuing cooperation and coordination with them to serve common interests. It emphasized Qatar's unwavering position in supporting diplomacy and dialogue and respecting international law and the UN Charter as the groundwork for peace and stability.
In this context, the Council strongly denounced the allegations of Iran's Foreign Minister, rejecting claims that the missile attacks targeted American interests and not Qatar. It pointed out that Iranian aggression targeted the nation's territory, industrial and commercial facilities, and critical civilian utilities, running contrary to Islamic fraternity and good neighborliness.
The Council expressed regret over Iran's escalatory approach and its bad faith, despite Qatar's efforts to facilitate dialogue and settle disputes peacefully. It also expressed shock at the busting of two cells operating for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps tasked with sabotage operations in Qatar, with members arrested by the country's security agencies.
Additionally, the Council commended the role of the Qatar Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior in confronting attacks and stabilizing the security situation. It lauded the efforts of authoritative agencies and citizens for their societal responsibility and compliance with guidelines from relevant authorities.
Subsequently, the Council urged the public to avoid incident scenes for safety, refrain from spreading rumors, and rely on official sources for information. It extended thanks to regional and international parliamentary unions for their solidarity with Qatar and condemned Iran's ongoing attacks.
The Council recalled statements from the Arab Parliament and the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, reaffirming their commitment to respecting Arab nations' sovereignty and rejecting any actions imperiling security and stability. It stressed that Gulf security is integral to regional and global security.
The Council referred to statements from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly, all condemning Iran's attacks and expressing solidarity with Qatar. It commended the positions of national parliaments and underscored the role of parliamentarians in de-escalating tensions and achieving global security through dialogue and diplomacy.
Director of Sessions and Committees Affairs Department Ahmed Sultan Al Ghanim read out the agenda, with the council debating the subjects and taking appropriate decisions.
