Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam commended the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to follow-up on housing projects.

He praised the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to upgrade services and meet citizens’ needs.

He reiterated the commitment of the Council of Representatives to support all the projects and programmes undertaken by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.

The Speaker made the comments as he co-chaired today a joint meeting with the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, in the presence of legislators representing the Southern Governorate and other officials.

He commended the minister’s efforts and cooperation, noting that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has so far held four meetings with lawmakers representing, respectively, the Governorate of Muharraq, the Capital Governorate, the Northern Governorate and the Southern Governorate to follow up on the progress of projects.

Addressing the meeting, Al Romaihi stressed the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislative branches to serve citizens, under the leadership of HM the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

She reiterated the ministry’s keenness on providing services, by adopting a three-pronged strategy aimed to provide decent housing for low-income families.

"The strategy includes housing finance programs, the government-owned land development rights program, in addition to the completion of the construction and development of housing towns", she said.

She highlighted the ministry’s cooperation with other government bodies to provide services, public amenities, commercial, educational, health and worship facilities in residential towns.

The meeting was attended by Members of the Council of Representatives Badr Saleh Al Tamimi, Abdulla Khalifa Al Romaihi, Dr. Ali Majid Alnoaimi, Lulwa Ali Al Romaihi, Mohammed Mohammed Al Refai, Mohammed Mousa Mohammed, Mohammed Youssef Al Maarafi, Mariam Saleh Al Dhaen and Najeeb Hamad Al Kawari.

Also present were Undersecretary Asem Abdullatif, Eskan Bank general-manager Dr. Khalifa Abdulla, Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs Balsam Al Salman, Assistant Undersecretary for Housing Services Fatima Al Mannai, Projects Follow-up director Mohammed Rashdan and Communications Director Haitham Kamal.
