The Kurdistan Region Presidency discussed with the International Coalition leadership in Iraq and Syria the process of reorganization and reform in the Peshmerga forces.
A statement by the regional presidency stated that an expanded meeting was held today, Monday, under the supervision of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, between a high-level delegation of the International Coalition headed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, General Matthew McFarlane, and the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and the relevant agencies in the Kurdistan Region.
According to the statement, the meeting, which was attended by the US Consul General in the Kurdistan region, discussed the process of reorganization and reform in the Peshmerga forces and evaluated the stages of implementing the reform plan within the framework of the agreement concluded between the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and the US Department of Defense, and also discussed the obstacles and challenges facing the process of unifying the Peshmerga forces and restoring Organizing it in modern ways within the framework of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
For his part, President Nechirvan Barzani highly evaluated the continuous assistance provided by the International Coalition to the Peshmerga in the various stages and fields, stressing the acceleration of the steps to reorganize the Peshmerga and removing obstacles to the process, expressing his readiness for all necessary cooperation and support in this context.
General McFarlane confirmed, according to the statement, the continued support and assistance of the International Coalition for the Peshmerga forces in various fields and in implementing the steps to reorganize the Peshmerga forces within the framework of the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs in a way that makes the Kurdistan region possess a unified national force of its own.
