Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani discussed with the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, the prospects for relations and cooperation between Iraq and the International Energy Agency. The ministry stated in a statement, 'The minister met on the sidelines of the French-Iraqi Economic Forum in Beirut, and during the meeting, joint cooperation was discussed, and support for Iraq's efforts in optimal investment of oil and gas wealth and renewable energy, in addition to the ministry's plans to promote projects to stop burning gas and convert it into useful energy " The statement pointed out that "the government's plans include diversifying energy sources in addition to adding more than 12 thousand megawatts of renewable energy by 2030," stressing that "the energy file in Iraq has witnessed a qualitative development thanks to the Iraqi government's plans to support energy projects and reduce emissions in the oil industry, and in carbon reduction, which rose to 3.76% of total national e missions in 2023.' It stated: 'This is double the voluntary national commitments required to be achieved regarding carbon reduction until the year 2030, which indicates a responsible commitment by Iraq towards the Paris Agreement and the international community.'
