The Tunisian President refuses the presence of foreign observers during the upcoming elections

Tunisian President Kais Saied announced his refusal to have foreign observers attend the upcoming elections scheduled to be held next year.

Saied said in a speech he delivered, on the sidelines of the swearing-in of the new members of the Independent High Electoral Commission, that “foreigners may come to follow the elections as observers, but they will not come to Tunisia to observe, because only Tunisians will observe the elections.”

He stressed that the upcoming elections in the country "can only be fair and transparent."

Presidential Spokesman for the Independent High Authority for Elections, Muhammad Al-Talili Al-Mansri, had previously announced that “it is expected that elections for the regional and regional councils (the second chamber of the House of Representatives) will be held in the middle of next December, with the elections being held in the fall of 2024, following the end of the President Saied’s presidential term.”
