London: UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband stressed the need to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East after US President Donald Trump called on other countries to help secure global oil supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking today, Miliband said: "The plan now must be to reduce the intensity of the conflict" in the region.
According to Qatar News Agency, a spokesperson for the UK Ministry of Defense stated that discussions are ongoing with allies and partners regarding a range of options to ensure the security of shipping in the region. This comes in response to the heightened concerns over the security of oil supplies transiting through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, emphasized the need for international collaboration to keep the Strait open and safe. He indicated that many countries, particularly those impacted by Iran's attempted closure of the Strait, would be deploying warships alongside the United States. Trump expressed hope that nations such as China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others would contribute naval forces to the effort in the region.
