Gaza: UN Human Rights Office Spokesperson Thameen Al Kheetan has urged the international community to take measures to prevent the resurgence of hunger in the Gaza Strip following the recent decision by Israeli forces to block humanitarian aid access.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Kheetan emphasized in press statements that Israel, as the occupying power, has a responsibility to ensure the delivery of essential supplies, including food and medical aid, to the residents of Gaza. He called for the provision of all necessary resources to support the health system and meet basic needs.
The UN spokesperson criticized Israel’s decision to bar humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, labeling it a violation of international law and Israel’s legal obligations. He expressed concern over the potential rise in prices for essential goods and the uncertainty surrounding access to life-saving necessities in Gaza.
Earlier, on March 2, Israeli authorities announced the suspension of humanitarian aid entry into Gaza and the closure of border crossings indefinitely. This action included the closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing in southern Gaza, leading to the return of trucks carrying relief supplies and goods.
