UN Human Rights Council to Hold Urgent Debate on Iran’s Attacks on GCC States, Jordan

Geneva: The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold an urgent debate Wednesday on Iran's military attacks against Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, which have targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure and resulted in casualties.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Council announced on Tuesday that the urgent debate is being convened following an official request submitted by Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Jordan on March 18. The statement highlighted that the requesting states plan to present a draft resolution during the debate.

The decision for this debate comes in response to a series of attacks launched by Iran since February 28. These attacks involved the use of ballistic missiles and drones, targeting essential civilian facilities and energy infrastructure across several GCC countries and Jordan, leading to civilian casualties and material damage.

The international community has widely condemned these attacks, with concerns being raised about their severe impact on global energy security and the safety of international navigation. The ongoing situation poses a threat to regional stability and vital interests, prompting urgent discussions at both regional and international levels.
