UN Official: 64% Gaza Strip Now Under Active Forced Displacement Orders

Doha: A UN official has warned that 64 per cent of the Gaza Strip is now under active forced displacement orders by Israeli occupation or within the so-called buffer zone. Acting Director of UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Jonathan Whittall told reporters via video from Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza that forced displacement orders have resumed after the collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza, describing Gaza as “a death trap” and what is happening there as “an endless loop of blood, pain, death”.

According to Qatar News Agency, Whittall reported that approximately 100,000 people have been displaced from Rafah in the past two days alone and that people were being shot as they fled. Whittall noted that 2.1 million people are trapped, bombarded, and starved, a month after supplies were blocked from entering Gaza. He expressed hope that member states would use their political and economic influence to enforce international law and reach a ceasefire that would halt the Israeli bombardment.
