Gaza: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced Tuesday that at least 322 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip over the past 10 days since the Israeli entity resumed its aggression on Gaza on March 18, following a two-month hiatus.
According to Qatar News Agency, a UNICEF statement revealed that the collapse of the ceasefire and the resumption of heavy shelling and ground operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the death of at least 322 children and the injury of 609 others. This averages to more than 100 children killed or maimed every day over the past 10 days.
The statement further detailed that most of these children were displaced, having sought refuge in temporary tents or damaged homes. It noted that these figures include children affected by the airstrike on the emergency department of Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, located in the southern Gaza Strip.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell commented that the ceasefire had provided a much-needed lifeline for Gaza’s children. She added that the suffering of children in Gaza has begun again due to the ongoing Israeli bombardment.
The Israeli occupation resumed its aggression on the Gaza Strip at dawn on March 18, after a two-month pause under a ceasefire agreement that had come into effect on January 19. However, the occupation violated the terms of the ceasefire during these two months, continuing its bombing of various areas in the Gaza Strip, resulting in casualties and injuries.
