The World Food Program (WFP) said Sunday on X platform that "Sudans war has raged for over 500 days, exposing half of the population 25.6 million people to extreme hunger and led to the first confirmation of famine anywhere in the world since 2017." The WFP explained: "Theres no time to waste. Humanitarian access and funding remain critical." According to the latest unofficial estimates, Sudan's population is about 49.5 million. The food and health disasters coincide with the continued suffering due to the fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, which has led to the displacement of more than 10.7 million people, according to UN reports, while the number of refugees abroad has reached about 2.3 million people, with children making up 50% of the internally displaced.
