According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km. Papua New Guinea lies within the Ring of Fire, a seismically and volcanically active zone along the Pacific Ocean. This region contains 90% of the world's active volcanoes.
