An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Thursday Morobe Province, northern Papua New Guinea. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 84 km from Finschhafen town and at a depth of 10 km. There have been no reports of casualties or material losses due to the earthquake so far. Papua New Guinea is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area extending along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, characterized by high activity of earthquakes and volcanoes. This region includes 90% of the active volcanoes in the world.
