Port Moresby, An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Tuesday Papua New Guinea.
The epicenter of the quake was 33 km northeast of Bulolo town, at a depth of 54 km, the US Geological Survey reported.
There have been no reports of casualties or material damage caused by the earthquake so far.
Papua New Guinea is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur. This region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world. In February 2018, a devastating earthquake hit the region, killing at least 100 people and causing landslides that buried dozens of villages.
