5.7-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Indonesia’s Seram Island

Seram Island: A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Seram on Sunday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Geophysics Agency stated that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km off the coast of North Sulawesi Province. There have been no reports of human or material damage following the event.

Indonesia is known for experiencing frequent seismic and volcanic activity owing to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire. In January 2021, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake resulted in the loss of over 100 lives in the country.
