Activities of Diwan Book Fair in Berlin Continue

The Arab Book Fair continued at the Arab Culture House (Diwan) of the Qatari Embassy in Berlin, with the participation of 66 publishing houses from various Arab and foreign countries. The fair is being held during the period from September 1 to 3.

The second day saw a signing ceremony for new publications by a number of Arab women writers, in addition to a symposium on the role of academic institutions in promoting cultural understanding between German and Arab societies during which the participants reviewed the role of Arab and German academic institutions in promoting cultural exchange, academic development, and creative intellectual production. This was followed by a symposium about Arabic manuscripts in Berlin and another on the motivations for translation from or to the Arabic language during which participants spoke about the role of translation in bringing nations and cultures together, knowing the facts and its role in international understanding, in addition to a musical event accompanying the exhibition's activities.

Visitors to the exhibition also watched, via a big screen, the most prominent tourist and cultural venues in the State of Qatar.

Launched in November 2017 by the State of Qatar, the Arab Culture House (Diwan) aimed at enhancing communication and understanding between Arabs and Germans by promoting Arab culture and introducing the German and European audiences to the cultural, civilizational and humanitarian role of Arabs in various eras. Its idea stemmed from the fact that Qatar recognized the role of culture in building bridges of communication, dialogue and understanding as culture plays a pivotal role in getting to know others and understanding their points of view to enhance the values of cultural dialogue and mutual understanding The Arab Culture House (Diwan) functions, through organizing cultural events, to create a state of dialogue and interaction between the Arab community and the German public. Its activities cover a various cultural exchanges, including artistic and photographic exhibitions, theatre, music and films.
