Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay al-Dahhak stressed the need for the Security Council to take immediate action to stop the Israeli occupation entity's attacks on Syrian territory and ensure that they are not repeated, stressing the need for the Council to take firm and immediate actions and issue a clear and unambiguous resolution obligating the occupation to stop its aggression on Palestine and Lebanon, and to curb the entity and confront its attempts to invade Lebanese territory. Ambassador al-Dahhak said in a statement on Thursday during a Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East that the Israeli occupation authorities do not listen to your Council, and continue to disregard the United Nations and international law, committing more acts of aggression and brutal crimes, and continuing to shed the blood of innocent civilians. This barbaric Israeli behavior, and the expansion of the occupation entity's scope of aggression to include Lebanon, and t he intensification of its attacks on Syrian territory and other countries in the region, is the result of the occupation authorities' belief that there are those in this Council who prevent it from fulfilling its mandate and taking any effective steps to stop the aggression and put an end to the Israeli crimes, and Council's inability to act and to procrastinate regarding the case in Gaza could be repeated in the case of Lebanon, which should be avoided and not allowed to be repeated, al-Dahhak noted. In conjunction with the escalation of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, the Israeli occupation authorities intensified their attacks on Syrian territory until they became almost daily. Over the past few days, they targeted a number of residential buildings in the capital, Damascus, resulting in the martyrdom of 15 civilians, most of whom were women and children, and the injury of dozens, not to mention the terror it caused to peaceful civilians, and the material losses and significant damage it caused to priva te and public property, al-Dahhak underlined. Al-Dahhak pointed out that these Israeli attacks also targeted the international road linking Damascus and Beirut, which is used daily by thousands of people coming from brotherly Lebanon to escape the Israeli killing machine, , causing additional suffering to them and exacerbating their humanitarian suffering resulting from the displacement, as well as the Israeli attacks targeted economic facilities and a center for collecting food and medical aid for people coming from Lebanon in the industrial city of Hasya. Al-Dahhak stressed that Syria has the right to defend the integrity of its territory by all means guaranteed by international law, calls on the Security Council to take immediate action to stop these attacks and ensure that they are not repeated. He reiterates Syria's strong solidarity with brotherly Lebanon, which is facing an urgent humanitarian tragedy as a result of the Israeli aggression. Syria looks forward to the response of the member states of the United Nations to the relevant appeals issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and it stresses the need for the Council to take firm and immediate actions, and issue a clear resolution that is not subject to interpretation or procrastination, obligating the Israeli occupation authorities to stop their aggression against Palestine and Lebanon, he added. Syria stresses the need to hold Israel accountable and ensure that it does not escape punishment according the Security Council resolutions to maintain international peace and security, he concluded.
