The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the 12th race meeting in the 2021-22 season calendar of the Al Uqda Racecourse on Thursday, 3 February. The six-race card day was run on turf and was concluded with the feature event, Al Jumail Cup, a 1400m Local Purebred Arabian Plate for 4YO+ fillies and mares. Trainer Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah and Al Jeryan Stud wrapped up a fantastic day, completing a hat-trick with AJS BERLINE (QA) (AF AlBahar x Dormaline) landing the Al Jumail Cup, having won the day’s feature by almost two lengths under Szczepan Mazur who also recorded a quick-fire double. The Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned and Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained EZZAT NAFS (QA) (AF AlBahar) was the runner-up under Lukas Delozier. The Umm Qarn-owned and Alban de Mieulle-trained ABIDA (QA) (Dahess) was further one and a quarter lengths in third under Carolos Henrique.
Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners after the final race of the day.
LATAMAH
The penultimate race saw a quick-fire double by trainer Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah and Al Jeryan Stud as LATAMAH (QA) (Pivotal x Poseidon’s Bride) prevailed by almost two lengths in the 1400m Conditions for 3YO+ Local Thoroughbreds under Szczepan Mazur.
HAJAJ
In the fourth race in the card, Al Jeryan Stud’s HAJAJ (IRE) (Dark Angel x And Again) won the 1400m Handicap (0-95) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds. The Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah–saddled 8YO horse was ridden to a comfortable win by three quarters of a length.
HADJIRA DE FLAUZINS
It was a quick-fire double for Injaaz Stud and jockey Marco Casamento in the third race in the card as the Julian Smart-schooled HADJIRA DE FLAUZINS (FR) (Josco Du Cayrou x Ishraf) stayed on gamely to win the 1400m Handicap (0-85) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians by a neck.
TEMBEL DE PINE
In the second race of the day, Injaaz Stud’s TEMBEL DE PINE (IT) (AF AlBahar x Razza Di Gallura) went one better than his penultimate start, winning the 1400m Maiden for 4-6YO Purebred Arabians. Under Marco Casamento, the Mohammed Ghazali-trained 5YO horse clinched victory by a neck.
PONDEROSA
The trainer-jockey duo Zuhair Mohsen and Soufiane Saadi picked up where they had left off the day before as they teamed up with the Al Ghariya (22) Racing-owned PONDEROSA (IRE) (Dubawi x Kalispell) to win the opener of the day, a 2100m Maiden for 4-6YO Thoroughbreds by half a length.
