Al wakrah: Al Wakrah Sports Club officially announced today the signing of Chilean coach Jose Luis Sierra to lead the first team, succeeding Spaniard Vicente Moreno, who departed to coach Al Rayyan.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Wakrah stated that Sierra signed a contract to lead the first team for the upcoming period, without specifying the contract's duration. The 57-year-old Sierra began his coaching career in 2010 with Union Espanola, a Chilean side, managing them until 2015. He then had a one-season stint with another Chilean club, Colo-Colo.
Sierra's first experience in the Gulf region was with Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad, where he served as head coach from 2016 to 2018 and achieved victories in the Crown Prince Cup and the King's Cup. Afterward, he coached Shabab Al Ahli in the UAE for a season before returning to Al-Ittihad for another season. He later managed Chilean side Palestino for the 2020-2021 season.
In his most recent roles before joining Al Wakrah, Sierra managed Al Tai in Saudi Arabia for the 2021-2022 season and then took charge of Al Wehda from 2022 to 2025. Al Wakrah currently ranks eighth on the Doha Bank Stars League table with 23 points from 19 matches this season.
