The Border Crossings Authority and an Iranian delegation agreed today, Wednesday, to raise the level of coordination between the two countries in the field of drug control.
A statement of the Border Crossings Authority stated: "The head of the authority, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, and the advanced staff in the authority, received a high-ranking government delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran, headed by the Secretary-General of the Anti-Narcotics Authority Iskandar Momeni, the head of the anti-drug police Iraj Kakound, and the head of the Refugee and Natural Disasters Department, and drugs, Majid Hamedani."
The statement added that: "a number of important issues related to the reality of the work of the border crossings in both countries and ways of tightening control over them and combating drug smuggling were discussed."
It explained: "The most prominent paragraphs that were discussed are:
1- Raise the level of coordination, exchange of information and integration in the fight against drugs.
2- Agreeing on points and methods of communication through liaison officers in following up the drug file.
3- Developing a studied plan to combat the entry of drugs during the visits.
4- The need to intensify searches for drugs to prevent their passage.
5- Control and close borders and smuggling routes to prevent their exploitation in drug smuggling.
6- Updating memorandums of understanding according to the variables of combating the entry and exit of drugs and promoting them.
7- Activating the intelligence information and the security effort concerned with following up the drug file.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the authority renewed the welcome of the guests, wishing to maintain communication through official channels to avoid any problem or defect in the workflow, stressing the need to open direct official channels of communication between the ports of the two countries, to address the obstacles that occur suddenly, in order to achieve smoothness in the course of work procedures.”
