An Iraqi-Iranian agreement to transport travelers and visitors across Shatt al-Arab

Baghdad, The Director General of Maritime Transport, Ahmed Jassim Al-Assadi, held a meeting today, Saturday, with the Executive Director of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Authority, Ali Akbar Safai to discuss joint transportation projects between the two countries. A statement from the media office of the Ministry of Transport said: 'Al-Assadi discussed with Safai the file of transporting passengers and visitors via Shatt al-Arab from the ports of (Abadan and Khorramshahr) to the port of Al-Wasiliyah and the Basra Corniche marina,' stressing that 'the start of work on this project will begin within the next two months.' The statement added, "The meeting agreed to hold a meeting of the joint committee for ports, maritime and river transport affairs between the two countries immediately after the Eid holiday. A delegation from the General Maritime Transport Company will also make a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran for the purpose of reviewing the academies and universities for maritime training and cours es to qualify crews for the purpose of benefiting from the expertise available in this sector.'
