Appointment of Mohammad Reza Aref as First Vice President of Iran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced today, Sunday, the appointment of Mohammad Reza Aref as First Vice President of the Republic. The Iranian president said, in a decree, that the appointment of Reza Aref to this position came "in view of his competence and valuable experience in management and implementation." Mohammad Reza Aref previously served as Vice President under former President Mohammad Khatami during the period (1997-2005), and held several other positions, including parliamentary representation of the capital Tehran in parliament, and presidency of Tehran University from 1994 to 1997. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei announced, on Sunday, the appointment of Masoud Pezeshkian as the new president of the country, after his victory in the early elections held following the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last May.
