Cairo, The Arab League Secretariat General launched together with the Doha International Family Institute (DIFI), a Qatar Foundation affiliate, the Joint Report on "Evaluating Marital Relationships during the First Five Years of Marriage in the Arab World" in an event taking place in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, over three days. The launching event was held with the participation of Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Executive Director of DIFI Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi, and HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the Arab League Tariq Ali Faraj Al Ansari, along with the representatives of member state delegations to the Arab League, and a lineup of experts and specialists. In her speech at the opening session, Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi said that marriage is a solid covenant out of which the building blocks of society and the nation emerge, regulating social ties and family relations, as well as promoting solidarity and compa ssion, adding that spouses form a single soul united in love and compassion under one roof. Al Emadi continued by pointing out that in partnership with the Arab League, DIFI launched back in 2019, a book on the status of marriage in the Arab World, which is the first of its kind in comprehensively covering all aspects of marriage in the Arab region, including marital choice, traditional and modern marriage patterns, age and marriage, marital relationships, and the intersection of marriage with educational, economic, and labor systems, among other analytical aspects. The Executive Director of DIFI noted that it was imperative to develop a scientific and accurate understanding of marital relationships, particularly with regards to factors contributing to divorce in the early years of marriage, but also to consider marriage's strength and resilience factors, hence, giving birth to the collaboration between DIFI and the Arab League's Social Affairs Sector in producing "Evaluating Marital Relationships During th e First Five Years of Marriage in the Arab World" For her part, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh expressed her happiness for the launching event taking place, in partnership with DIFI, highlighted the report's success in identifying the success factors and challenges to marriage in the Arab world, as well as recommending intervention programs to deal with marital issues during the early years of marriage. Ambassador Abu Ghazaleh praised DIFI's efforts in making this activity a success, adding that the Arab League considers these efforts as a manifestation of DIFI's vision to promote family well-being. The Arab League Assistant Secretary-General also pointed out that the circumstances facing the Arab family pertaining to the ever-changing pace of life and trends, wars, cultural changes, and the wide exposure to media and information, require constantly finding innovative solutions and new approaches to protect marriage and main tain its cohesion in the Arab region. Ambassador Abu Ghazaleh explained that this could be achieved through developing and enhancing pre-marriage preparation courses and programs in the Arab world. Source: Qatar News Agency
