Arab League Secretary-General to visits Japan on Monday

Cairo, Ahmed Abul Gheit, the Arab League Secretary-General headed to Tokyo on Monday on an official visit to Japan, his first since taking office. The Secretary-General will participate in the fifth session of the Arab-Japanese Economic Forum and conduct official meetings and activities in this regard. Gamal Roshdi, the Official Spokesperson for the Secretary-General said that Abul Gheit is scheduled to participate in the forum on July 10 and 11. It is organised by the General Secretariat of the League in cooperation with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO). The spokesperson explained that the forum will be inaugurated by the Secretary-General alongside Yoko Kamikawa, the Japanese Foreign Minister, and Yasutoshi Nishimura, the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported. The Arab side will be represented by ministers from the energy, trade, industry, and economic sectors. This session of the forum will focus on topics of partnership, enhancing Arab-Japanese trade exchange, and cooperation in the fields of energy transition, digital transformation, and investment. The spokesperson added that the official visit to Japan is expected to include several important meetings with Japanese political leaders, headed by the secretary-general of the cabinet, the acting prime minister of Japan, the foreign minister, and the Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the House of Councillors of the Japanese Parliament. Moreover, there will be a meeting with the Minister of Digital Transformation. These meetings aim to exchange views on key issues of mutual interest on the regional and international stage, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, which remains the central issue for the Arab League, especially the Palestinian cause.
