Libya: Libya's Zawiya Oil Refining Company announced a complete shutdown of the Zawiya refinery and the evacuation of oil tankers following armed clashes near the oil complex located west of Tripoli.
According to Qatar News Agency, the company reported that heavy shelling affected operational areas, which led to the implementation of emergency measures to ensure the safety of staff and facilities. In response to the unrest, security forces in Zawiya initiated a comprehensive operation aimed at apprehending wanted suspects and armed groups to re-establish order and reinforce state control. This effort is supported by judicial warrants authorizing raids, arrests, and searches.
The ongoing campaign is focused on tackling organized crime, including killings, kidnappings, extortion, drug and arms trafficking, human smuggling, illegal migration, and attacks on property. The Libyan Red Crescent has received distress calls from residents due to the panic induced by shelling in residential areas. As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of fatalities.
