Egyptian Foreign Minister Discuss Region with French, Tanzanian Counterparts

Cairo: Foreign Minister of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments in two separate phone calls with his French and Tanzanian counterparts Jean-Noel Barrot, Mahmoud Thabet Kombo.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that Abdelatty emphasized to his French counterpart the need to prioritize diplomatic solutions to contain regional escalation. He noted his country's support for the negotiating track between the United States and Iran, which contributes to de-escalation and promotes political solutions.

The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of completing all requirements of the first phase of the US President's plan and beginning the implementation of the second phase. He also pointed to the importance of the National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip commencing its work and the swift deployment of the international stabilization force.

Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Abdelatty expressed his country's support for Lebanon and its condemnation of the repeated Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty. He emphasized the need to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of Lebanon, as well as to support national institutions in fully carrying out their responsibilities in maintaining the country's security and stability.

During his call with the Tanzanian Foreign Minister, Abdelatty also discussed preparations for the African Union Coordination Summit, scheduled to be hosted by Egypt next month. Both ministers emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation on the issues on the joint African action agenda, which will contribute to supporting integration and development efforts and strengthening joint continental action.

Regarding water security, Abdelatty stressed the importance of cooperation and integration in the Nile River to achieve mutual benefit and shared interests. He noted the importance of adhering to the spirit of consensus and fraternity to restore inclusivity to the Nile Basin Initiative, rejecting unilateral actions, and welcoming the positive developments in the NBI's consultative process to restore inclusivity in accordance with international law, thus achieving mutual benefit for all Nile Basin countries.
