Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor, Minister of Social Development, headed Bahrain’s delegation in the high-level forum on "Implementing the Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities 2023-2032".
The forum aims to promote cooperation and exchange of expertise in the area of empowering and supporting people with disabilities.
Among the goals of the forum are to ensure that persons with disabilities have equal opportunities and are fully integrated into society, and to support Arab countries in implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), as well as developing laws and policies that respond to their needs.
The minister underscored the importance of exhanging expertise in protection and social care programmes to achieve national and Arab aspirations for improving the social and economic conditions of persons with disabilities.
An extraordinary session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs was also organised to consider the social issues on the agenda of the fifth session of the he Arab Summit for Economic and Social Development, which will be held in Mauritania.
The participants discussed 17 axes that resulted from the 32nd Arab Summit last May, including legislation, policies, social, health, and educational services, and ensuring independent living as well as participation in political, cultural, and sporting activities.
The participating delegations were briefed on Tunisia's pioneering social experiments, especially in the areas of care, integration, rehabilitation, and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The forum was organised in cooperation with the Secretariat General of the Arab League following the 42nd session of the Arab Council of Ministers of Social Affairs.
