US President Joe Biden announced the production of the first 90 kg of enriched uranium in the United States. Biden said during his campaign speech in Washington that by the end of 2024, the United States plans to enrich about a ton of enriched fuel intended for American nuclear reactors. He added: "Today I can announce that the plant located in southern Ohio has produced the first 200 pounds (more than 90 kilograms) of this powerful enriched uranium." It is noteworthy that the United States is seeking to abandon the use of uranium imported from Russia, and replace it with American low-enriched uranium, as the American authorities plan to develop and expand the use of mini-reactors of the new generation. The Financial Times newspaper reported last February that the US nuclear industry expects Washington to ban the import of enriched uranium from Russia this year. Data from the US Census Bureau showed last February that at the end of last year, the United States purchased $1.2 billion worth of uranium from Russia, which is the highest level in the entire history of recording statistics.
