Biden orders adjustment of US troop deployment in the Middle East

Key Issues

US President Joe Biden ordered adjustment of US troop deployment in the Middle East region, against the backdrop of the recent Israeli escalation in Lebanon. The White House said in a statement today, Saturday, that Biden "directed the Pentagon to assess and adjust the US troop position in the region as necessary to enhance deterrence, ensure the protection of forces, and support the full range of US objectives." He pointed out that Biden also directed his team to ensure that US embassies in the region take all precautionary measures. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had called, yesterday, Friday, again, for a truce between Israel and the Lebanese "Hezbollah" after Tel Aviv ignored a ceasefire proposal drafted by the United States and France. He warned that "the United States will take all measures against any party that exploits the situation to target US forces and interests in the region." Source: National Iraqi News Agency
